Novel Review 2 – Captivated by you

Captivated By You

死神)为你着迷

by Gui Yu

This is a very light-hearted and fluffy novel that is suitable to read on a rainy day lazing around with a cup of hot chocolate. (This is how I make myself comfy. xD) There are 19 chapters, 1 prologue, and 1 epilogue.

I only read the translated version from a fan website. You can read here.

Do you believe in fate? Because I do. Fate is a very wonderful encounter.

There are billions of people in this world, if not millions in your nation. Yet, why do two people meet each other by chance? Isn’t it too coincident?

One night, in the subway, Mo Lan was talking about her voice actor idol with her best friend. As luck claimed to be, he, her idol of four years, met her there for the first time.

How could people fall in love with only voice regarding of the appearance, background, education or inner beauty? Would you fall in love with this person without the slightest hesitation solely because of his voice? Yet, she would undoubtedly say yes. The life as a fan…sigh

Mo Lan met him for the second time on the train to Hangzhou even though she didn’t remember him. What gave her the impression this time was that she called him awake when they arrived at the station as he was ignorant and still asleep. Little did she know while she was sitting in the corner watching an opera, he was there watching her. It was another fated coincidence. Millions of fans commented on his photo; yet, the only ones that he replied were hers.

Once is chance. Twice is coincidence. Thrice is pattern.

The third time was luck. Thousands of fans were waiting to grab the mic in a voice platform in order to chat with him. Mo Lan got one of the two. Isn’t this fate? Hmmm I do not know. I only know this is the beginning of their story.

She picked it up and saw that it was a friend request from GYM.

The request message was merely: “I am your idol.”

AS IF HEAVEN AND EARTH, CHOOSE ME AND YOU

Secretly Captivated was a low-profile Internet CV (Character Voice). In his career life, he had only dubbed in two radio dramas, yet he stably sat on his throne of the number one CV in the Internet dubbing circle.

He was romantic, gorgeous, charming, and touching. When he spoke, you would think that he was looking at you with a somewhat smiling expression in his eyes that made you hold your breath.

Coming out of his retirement, although he was considering it beforehand, it was on that night which he met her for the first time on the subway that he finally resolutely made up his mind. To find her…

“Actually I’ve always wanted to ask you, what’s the reason for your comeback this time?”

“Oh…it’s probably because i want to be seen by someone. When I stand tall, only will she see.”

After that, henceforth, he retired once again, permanently.

THE WORLD IN SUCCESSION, DEEP PASSION IS RARE.

A strong point that the novel included was the demonstration of difference between the 2D and 3D world.

For a voice enthusiast, all they would care about was the voice of the person. As for what they look like, tall or short, fat or thin, their family background, a voice enthusiast would not care. However, this didn’t mean that their moral character could be deplorable either. There was an example of an Internet CV taking advantage of his fans by using one’s own voice, deceiving them to meet up, and defaming the innocent.

The Internet Voice Circle was not a particularly clean and pure circle. After all, in this 2D world, they are the Internet Voice CVs, the beautiful voices who chatted cheerfully and wittily together, but in reality, how would you know what kind of decisive thoughts would the person in front of the computer screen kept? There have been an uninterrupted number of pink and even purple CVs that have been pulled down from the altar because of all sorts of dark history. At the same time, there have also been a continuous stream of fans who goes from disappointment to despair, from being fanatical to a damned heart. It led to some fan thinking what if my idol was one of them too? Do i know him? After serious comprehension, they would choose to rely on their eyesight.

Thank you for never letting me down all these times.

IT WOULD BE BETTER TO NOT HAVE ENCOUNTERED YOUR ALLUREMENT

I have been contemplating whether I should include this in my review of the novel. It was the content of Gu Ye Mi’s second radio drama. This drama was so devastating which was one the reason I decided to include.

“Cross Me – Du Wo”

In this radio drama, Gu Ye Mi was a highly devoted and religious monk named Jia Luo. His biggest dream was to become Buddha. One day, while he was meditating in Ming Yue Brook, he encountered and saved a white little fox from the cave of tigers. It was the beginning of the classic cliche storyline of the love between a fox and the monk.

She turned into human after five hundred years of meditation and named herself Ah Zhi. She came to the shrine to find him; yet, every time she did he ignored her. The fox did not give up as expected. At dawn, she stood silently beside the monk as he rang the temple’s bell. In the afternoon, she turned herself into a fox and accompany him in his studies in the hall. At night, she accompanied him in his meditation under a tree. Just like that, the monk was becoming more and more stable and the fox did not change her mind at all.

It was until a disaster happened. The people near the shrine disappeared one by one at night. They accused her to be the culprit since she was the fox demon. They said, “Once a monster, always a monster.”

Therefore, thousands of disciples surrounded Ah Zhi and burned her alive using their meditation on the night of lightning and thunder. She was screaming his name painfully again and again outside the house. Yet, he didn’t show up. After one hour, Ah Zhi was burnt into ashes and her soul flew off from her body. To never return…

Hey, don’t become Buddha. Bring me out. We could go anywhere in this realm.

I’m not leaving. I like you. I’ll be wherever you are.

Jia Luo. Come out. Why aren’t you out? I hate you. I hate you.

Her voice rang in his hear for a long time. On that night, he massacred every single monk in the shrine. He broke away from his past by fully relinquished his immortal being and became a demon wandering all over the three realms just to track down her three immortal souls and seven mortal forms which were scattered in all directions.

He gave up his meditations his life in order for her to regain herself. However, the newly reborn Ah Zhi could no longer recognized him.

It doesn’t matter who I am, never forget though, you are called Ah Zhi.

Ah Zhi, if there was an afterlife… I will never choose to become Buddha.

Yet, is there really an afterlife?

“Jia Luo! Come out! Why aren’t you coming out? I hate you, I hate you!”

Actually at this moment, Jia Luo was just sitting on the praying mat with a clear and aloof tone mumbling, “Cause of love sorrow is born, cause of love fear is born. By averting love, no sorrow no fear.”

THE SECULAR WORLD HAS A HUNDRED CHARMS AND A THOUSAND WORLDLY TRENDS.
YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE I WOULD EVER LOVE
.

P.S. It was this novel that introduced me into ancient-style music. Thanks to the translator who even translated the lyrics in the novel.
